Privacy
Planet Pip is a free browser game. Here is everything it keeps about you.
Your progress
Your level, coins, gear, unlocked zones, missions, achievements and settings are saved in your own browser (local storage). They leave your device only as described under Leaderboards and Cloud save below.
Leaderboards
If you post a score, the game stores your pilot name, the score, which astronaut you played, a random player ID kept in your browser, and a replay of your run so others can race your ghost. To stop spam, a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address is kept with each score and in a rate-limit log that is cleared after a day. Pilot names are public, so don't use your real name if you'd rather not.
Cloud save
So you can keep playing on another device, the game backs up your progress (the same data kept in your browser) to the server under your random player ID, and gives you a pilot code to load it elsewhere. Anyone with your pilot code can load that progress, so keep it to yourself.
Online co-op
When you open your game for others to join, the server lists your pilot name, astronaut, level and the zone you're in, and keeps your random player ID and a scrambled (hashed) IP address for the rate limits. When someone asks to join, the server passes their pilot name, astronaut and level to you, then swaps the two browsers' connection details (including each one's internet address) so they can connect directly. The listing is deleted as soon as you're connected, close your game, or stop answering for 15 seconds. During the game, the host's screen and sound go straight to the guest's browser, and the guest's button presses and pilot (astronaut, level, gear, training) go straight to the host's; none of it passes through the server. To find a route between the two browsers, each one asks Google's public STUN servers for its own public address.
Analytics (only if you allow it)
With your OK, the game uses Google Analytics to count visits and to see where players get stuck, for example which zone you started, where you were knocked out and when you cleared a zone. Google then sets cookies to tell visits apart. Nothing is used for advertising.
Analytics stays off until you press Allow analytics on the banner. You can change your mind any time in Settings → Privacy in the game; turning it off stops collection and deletes the analytics cookies from this site. Your choice is kept in your browser.
Step counts
To see where new players get stuck, the game counts how many times each step of the first zone is reached each day, for example "finished the jump tip" or "reached the first checkpoint". Only the step and the day are sent and stored: no player ID, no IP address, and nothing is saved on your device for it.
